Greatwood saplings can grow into greatwood trees by planting them in a suitable location and waiting.
In order to grow, a greatwood sapling must be planted in one of the corners of a flat 2x2 plot of soil, where all four soil blocks must be able to have a sapling planted upon them. This is a similar setup to vanilla Minecraft's large jungle and dark oak trees, though greatwoods only require a single sapling instead of 4. Additionally, six blocks above the 2x2 plot must be cleared of all obstructions.
When it receives a random block tick, a planted greatwood sapling has a 1⁄25 chance to grow into a greatwood tree, as long as the block light level above the sapling is 9 or greater. Unlike vanilla Minecraft saplings, bone meal cannot be used to accelerate their growth; however, both the Hoe of Growth and the Lamp of Growth can. Using a Hoe of Growth will immediately grow the sapling into a tree without fail regardless of the block light level, assuming all other requirements are met.
